Throwback Thursday; Jacobite Steamtrain

Omdat gewoon niemand meer meedoet aan de Thursday Challenge (wat best jammer is, die tweewekelijkse challenges zijn gewoon de nekslag geweest) ga ik zelf maar wat bedenken;
een Throwback Thursday. Of dat wekelijks terug gaat komen weet ik nog niet, maar in ieder geval leek het me wel leuk om een foto uit te kiezen van 'way back when' en daar iets over te vertellen.

Deze foto is genomen boven op een heuvel bij de Glenfinnan bridge in 2005. Het was de tweede keer dat ik met mijn toenmalige man in Schotland op vakantie was en deze keer waren we met de kinderen een rondreis aan het maken door heel Schotland. Even hiervoor hadden de jongens in de locomotief gezeten bij de machinist die ons zag staan en vroeg of we kaartjes voor de trein hadden. Op ons 'No we don't' zei hij dat we naar hem moesten komen en dat de boys dan in de locomotief mochten komen kijken.

Oudste zoon wilde graag de stoomfluit laten klinken maar dat mocht niet, maar zo beloofde de man, als hij op de brug reed dan zou hij heel hard de stoomfluit laten klinken (wat hij dus ook deed) maar dan moesten we wel nu weg wilden we er op tijd zijn! Van Fort William af was het nog een eindje rijden, maar ex reed snel. We waren mooi op tijd. Man met kids stond op de heuvel en ik stond onderaan de brug. (foto is dan ook door hem gemaakt) (Het was onze eerste digitale camera en ik schoot die vakantie nog zo'n 6 rolletjes vol)
Voor we van het perron van Fort William weggingen vertelde de man dat hij van alles meemaakte met toeristen die zich uitdosten als Harry Potter figuren, vooral Amerikanen. Dat had je nog niet de eerste keer dat wij in Schotland waren in 1992. Toen was nog alles een film locatie zoals nu.

Thursday Challenge; Road

Het is een tijdje geleden dat ik aan de Thursday Challenge meegedaan heb, o.a. omdat die twee-wekelijkse opdrachten me niet zo trekken en ik nu eenmaal niet meer zoveel fotografeer maar ik zal weer eens een poging wagen.

Today is WorldPhotoDay and to celebrate that I have to tend to my neglected photoblog again. I was trying to be on social media less so that's why I'm on here less as well. I'm not making photos as much as I used to as well.
I still haven't got my holiday too (two weeks from now) so no fresh new pics either.

Thursday Challenge; Peaceful

Today's Thursday Challenge is all about PEACEFUL (Calm, Relaxed, Sleeping, Landscapes, Water,...)

On our Edinburgh trip my sister and I went for a walk along the water of Leith. I read about Dean Village and how lovely it was supposed to be. So on a gorgeous day with blue skies and plenty of sunshine to go around we walked along a wonderful and peaceful river of Leith. If you go to Edinburgh one day yourself we highly recomend it! It's gorgeous!

Greyfriars Bobby story is a sad story

Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh for supposedly spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner until he died himself on 14 January 1872. The story continues to be well known in Scotland, through several books and films, and a prominent commemorative statue and nearby graves act as a tourist attraction.

I'm still working on my photos but I've made some of the lovely bluebells and some other flowers. I've always wanted to see the bluebells bloom in Spring in the UK and it's a beautiful sight!

Thursday Challenge; Peaceful

Time for another Thursday Challenge and this week's challenge is;
"PEACEFUL" (Calming, peaceful nature, park, or urban scenes,...)


I don't know why but this place is magical. It is by far the most peaceful place I've seen in the world even though it's an ancient burial place. It's quiet, still, peaceful. You really can come to peace there. I've been here around 4 times now and this place does that to me every time!

Bonnie Scotland

Onlangs kreeg ik via mijn ex-man van mijn zoon zijn harde schijf in  mijn handen geduwd. 'Mam, pap heeft eindelijk alle video's op mijn harde schijf gezet die hij nog had, voor jou'. Ik zette de boel op mijn pc en het verbaasde mij wat er allemaal opstond. Ooit had ik aan mijn ex gevraagd of hij het filmpje van mijn hond als pup over wilde zetten aangezien ik daar de apparatuur niet voor heb en hij wel, maar kennelijk vond hij nog veel meer dan alleen dat ene bandje. Filmpjes én foto's van de kids als hummels, vakanties, noem maar op. En ja de hond ook. Maar ook foto's van Schotland. Mijn geliefde Schotland kan ik wel zeggen. Ik had er wel een aantal en heb er zelfs nog een heleboel 'niet digitale' die ik ooit nog eens wil scannen. Dus weer materiaal genoeg voor een foto-blog, zou je zeggen! :) De wonderen zijn de wereld nog niet uit dus!
(al laat de kwaliteit wel wat te wensen over maar wat wil je, van een van de eerste digitale cameraatjes die er destijds waren)
