Sneeuw

Dust of Snow

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Robert Frost

Het blijft niet echt liggen maar toch; sneeuw! :)

Bluebells

A Passing Glimpse

I often see flowers from a passing car
That are gone before I can tell what they are.

I want to get out of the train and go back
To see what they were beside the track.

I name all the flowers I am sure they weren't;
Not fireweed loving where woods have burnt--

Not bluebells gracing a tunnel mouth--
Not lupine living on sand and drouth.

Was something brushed across my mind
That no one on earth will ever find?

Heaven gives it glimpses only to those
Not in position to look too close.

Robert Frost

Butterflies (Emmen)

To a butterfly (2)

I'VE watched you now a full half-hour,
Self-poised upon that yellow flower;
And, little Butterfly! indeed
I know not if you sleep or feed.
How motionless!---not frozen seas
More motionless! and then
What joy awaits you, when the breeze
Hath found you out among the trees,
And calls you forth again !

This plot of orchard-ground is ours;
My trees they are, my Sister's flowers;
Here rest your wing when they are weary;
Here lodge as in a sanctuary!
Come often to us, fear no wrong;
Sit near us on the bough!
We'll talk of sunshine and of song,
And summer days, when we were young;
Sweet childish days, that were as long
As twenty days are now.

Bumblebee

I love poetry and I used to put a poem with a photo of my own on my photoblog. I stopped doing that, I don't know why. But I want to pick it up again. So here's a poem by James Whitcomb Riley (1849–1916) about a bumblebee (btw I always 'pet' them and I had a bumblebee as a 'pet' once as a kid so I've never been stung so I wouldn't know; I like those fluffy bees! :)

The Bumblebee

You better not fool with a Bumblebee!—
Ef you don't think they can sting—you'll see!
They're lazy to look at, an' kind o' go
Buzzin' an' bummin' aroun' so slow,
An' ac' so slouchy an' all fagged out,
Danglin' their legs as they drone about
The hollyhawks 'at they can't climb in
'Ithout ist a-tumble-un out ag'in!
Wunst I watched one climb clean 'way
In a jimson-blossom, I did, one day,—
An' I ist grabbed it — an' nen let go—
An' "Ooh-ooh! Honey! I told ye so!"
Says The Raggedy Man; an' he ist run
An' pullt out the stinger, an' don't laugh none,
An' says: "They has be'n folks, I guess,
'At thought I wuz predjudust, more er less,—
Yit I still muntain 'at a Bumblebee
Wears out his welcome too quick fer me!"

The Spider's web

E. B. White (1899 - 1985)

The Spider's Web

The spider, dropping down from twig,
Unfolds a plan of her devising,
A thin premeditated rig
To use in rising.

And all that journey down through space,
In cool descent and loyal hearted,
She spins a ladder to the place
From where she started.

Thus I, gone forth as spiders do
In spider's web a truth discerning,
Attach one silken thread to you
For my returning.

Vliegenzwam

Omhoog kroop hij
Langzaam maar onverschrokken
Het daglicht tegemoet
Net zolang tot hij daar rechtop stond
Blinkend in het zonlicht
Met zijn mooie rode hoed

Herfstblad

Nothing gold can stay

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Jacob's Ladder

The clouds are restless
in the sky
tear-filled, brooding
they promise
to unleash a torrent
at any moment

The wind is wet
with the threat of rain

My heart is crushed
beneath this heavy sky
of trials
and I am forced to my knees
by the weight of them

but you come
like a shaft of pure light
breaking through
the clouds

Jacob's ladder
stretching upwards
so bright, so pure
you seem a solid thing
drawing my eyes to heaven

Drenched and weary
I will stand
and bask in a hope
no storm can wash
from my heart

Licht

In deze tijd
Een tijd van bezinning
Licht en Liefde
Wens en Hoop
Gezellig
Samenzijn
Is mijn wens
Fijne dagen
Voor allen
En veel
Geluk
Gezondheid
En een
Inspirerend
2013
Voor allemaal.

Liefs,

Kati

Nog even en dan...

Nog even
Even wachten op
Zoveel moois

Erop schijnt
De regendruppels verdampen
In het herfstzonnetje
Dus nog even wachten
En dan is hij daar: de Herfst

Longing for winter

You have to be happy in Summer, don't you?
I don't tan or have the legs for shorts,
Can't afford to get away. So I close my eyes
And have winter thoughts.

In winter it's harder to get out of bed, so cold
Harder to walk uphill, on ice, in the dark.
Welcome to my world.
The duck pond is always frozen in my park.

I hope I can hang on tighter than the leaves.
Give Summer my old shoulder, and feel.
I can try again,
My mind as clear as a snow covered field.
